Holiday Break

So life is finally slowing down and I have time to reflect on my first semester back to school. It was definitely an adventure. I learned so many new things.

1. School takes on a whole new perspective at this age.
2. Receiving an A isn't always good enough.
3. The harder we work, the easier it is.
4. Alzheimer's had already set in.
5. Group work sucks! I can't trust my A in the hands of others.
6. How do others juggle this much work? It was a lot of work!

I believe these six statements pretty much sum up my first semester. It was a shock to my system to learn how to take a test again. I constantly worried about the what-ifs. Sleep was in short supply. Getting an A wasn't good enough for me. I wanted a 99 or above in each class. If my grade wasn't perfect, I looked for answers to correct it before moving on to the next week's assignments. Am I crazy? I would never put in this much effort fresh out of high school. I was burned out on school. Honestly, I don't know how students these days handle all the pressure. Now they are pushing students to finish up sooner. I think that will only exacerbate the problem. We will have a society of burned out know it alls who don't really know all that much.

So far I have completed my first semester including Freshman writing, Introduction to computers, Health, and Communications. Next semester we will tackle another writing class, Introduction to Sociology and Religions, and a Math class. The first semester, I had taken all of those classes some 20 years ago. This semester, I have taken 2-3 of the classes before so it may be a little more challenging. It is still another 12 credit hours so the work load should be about the same. I'm excited to get started again. I'm ready to get more of this behind me so I can start working on the meat of my education, meaning the upper division courses.

By the way, be sure to look out for me in the paper. I should be appearing in the Greensboro and High Point newspapers sometime in the month of March. I submitted one silly photograph of myself. Let's pray they leave that part out.

First Post

Welcome! After all the ups and downs of returning to school, I have decided to blog about my adventures. This has been quite a ride and one that I'm sure will prove to be even more entertaining as the semesters roll on.
